The Customized Use of Genuine Essential Oils is a Critical Adjunct to Healthcare

"Dear Doctor. A client recently mentioned being a patient of yours. Because I believe in holistic integrative care, it made sense to introduce myself and request a chance to speak professionally in the best interest of this person.

After 40 years of working with and investigating essential oil constituents, it's evident these botanical compounds are as necessary as oxygen when it comes to addressing the root cause of all health issues.

My background also includes medicinal chemistry, epigenetics, and the science of nutrition which assists me with customizing and safely integrating essential oils into my client's lifestyle."

I follow this up by letting them know that I am not affiliated with any essential oil company ... because that's usually the first question I'm asked. And believe it or not, I rarely, if ever, hear back from them.

This isn't to say that I don't know why. I truly understand. As I outlined in the previous post. Click here to read or re-read!

The origins of essential oils date back at least a thousand years, and have been used for medicinal purposes for at least as long. Essential oils are concentrated oils derived from plants that are described as containing “the essence” of the plant. Essential oil can be derived from nearly any plant matter imaginable, from flowers to tree bark. Today, essential oils are used less for medical purposes and more for aromatherapy, skincare, and alternative healing practices. A few of the most commonly used essential oils are tea tree oil, rosemary oil, and lavender oil. The market value of essential oils worldwide is expected to grow from around 17 billion U.S. dollars in 2017 to about 27 billion dollars by 2022. Europe accounts for the largest share of the global essential oils market, with the Asia Pacific region and North America tying for second place.

The import value of essential oils to the U.S. exceeds 13.57 billion USD every year.

Worldwide market demand of essential oils is 227 kilotons with the U.S. market share coming in at 84.3 kilotons.

Because essential oil use is on the rise AND the study of their constituents contribute to the scientific knowledge being applied to both the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of medications, it’s important we pay attention.

Simply put, pharmacokinetics is the movement of drugs / chemicals through the body and what it does to the drug while pharmacodynamics assesses the biological response to the drug / chemical. This includes CYP450 enyzme activity in the liver, cell receptor activity, the microbiome, and much more.

Your system is designed to metabolize and convert chemicals whether produced in the body or introduced as medications, supplements or oils for either further use as well as to be eliminated.

However, excessive exposure to stressors albeit mentally, emotionally, environmentally along with the misunderstanding that your body is a walking chemistry lab heightens the production of oxidative stress.

Yes, this includes the inaccurate use of essential oils such as tea tree, lavender, rosemary and orange to name a few.

By the way, which lavender, rosemary and orange are they using?

This question matters because there are varieties with different chemicals...

If you take an antidepressant, using any orange essential oil could be contributing to altered effects or unwanted additional symptoms a.k.a. adverse reactions that we're not attributing to the oil because it's ..... natural!

If you use any kind of rosemary essential oil on a regular basis, you are being exposed to yet another phenol or two and even though we recognize the anti-inflammatory properties of the natural compounds, the reverse is true as well.

The misconception that goes along with GRAS is potentially threatening to the body, increasing the amount of oxygen it requires to manage all the stressors. This makes healthcare an endless exercise of dis-ease maintenance.

Another concern with essential oils is the blood-thinning constituents that must be stopped prior to any invasive procedure whether it's a visit to the OR or your dentist.

My goal is to team up with these physicians in the interest of the people we serve because information like this matters when it comes to providing the best healthcare. I understand why talking with me may seem like a waste of time, however, I assure you its not.

In fact, let's start with a virtual lunch-n-learn! After 40 years, this is my life's work and what better way to truly know whether or not it's a fit for you, your staff and patients is to meet and speak with me personally!
