Healing Crisis versus OMG! Something's Wrong!

How do you see your body? Your symptoms? Your discomforts?

I recently received an email from a client that plucked at this nerve SO much that I was inspired to grab a bullhorn and shout an urgent message from the MOUNTAIN TOP!

What is THIS pressing point?

Your body is not dysfunctional, no matter what symptoms you’re experiencing!

The concerns shared in the email involved a rash on her abdomen that erupted after using essential oils for the last few weeks. It’s at this point that most people typically give up thinking they either have an allergy to the oils or they’re actually not helping and making things worse.

Limitations in the psyche block perception of the truth, and the healing of those limitations restores insight and understanding to the consciousness. Hence, the more limitations you have removed from your psyche, the more clearly you can see things as they really are, enabling you to take in the bigger picture, the broad sweep of spiritual development and evolution. The limiting beliefs you have about yourself and body influence the decisions you make on what to do next.

Healing ONLY happens when you transform your thinking. Illness and dis-ease happen in a body weighted down by undermining beliefs of doubt, worry, and abject skepticism … I mean … TRULY rising above the health issues you face requires you to free yourself from the dense, dark thinking.

As I wrote the word dense, I flashed to a time as a child when we would call the kids we judged as slow, dumb or dense. Please know, I realize you are not dim witted or lacking intelligence. On the contrary, you’re highly intelligent and clearly able to think on your feet. This was a childhood experience that taught me a lot.

Nevertheless, the undermining beliefs I refer to began taking shape and influencing your choices about how to navigate life from a very early age.

They frequently sound quite similar to the way your family and friends think as well as those of your social media connections.

You know those times when you sound like your mother

I am not proud of the way my friends and I used to judge other kids.

We saw people as thick headed, mindless, heavy (because they reminded us of Eeyore), ‘Debbie’ downers, obtuse, numb skulls and so on. All any of this meant was we were just as sluggish and caught up in a shiftless mindset that limited us from seeing anything but the dark side of the people around us.

This brings to mind the countless questions I’ve seen posed to psychologists about why humans focus on the negative aspect of things. The consistent response has been that ‘people are hard-wired for negativity’.

Hard-wired suggests programmed which sadly makes sense.

I understand logically how this has helped humans survive throughout the centuries, yet, there is a fine line. As my dad used to say, ‘everything in moderation’. There is nothing wrong with being aware in a situation and even erring on the side of caution. The challenge is when you believe the doubt and make decisions based on your emotions which are rooted in fear of the negative.

What if you acknowledged your concerns and opened yourself up to knowing all things are possible even if you don’t know what that is. You believe in a Divine Energy that created your body. Why can’t you believe this same Energy wouldn’t provide you with the means to heal and be healthy?

Limiting beliefs hold you hostage in the world of impossible.

Again, there is nothing wrong with limiting beliefs. They were passed down through the generations as a way of keeping you safe. Yet, that is survival mode.

Life is meant to flourish. Look around you. Trees and plants are thriving in spite of insect infestations, viruses (yes, they are exposed to them as we are) or even the pesky critter that enjoys dining on their leaves. Not to mention, land that is burned to the ground still sprouts new plants. So, anything is possible when you are not governed by the thoughts that undermine your ability to thrive.

So, what’s up with these symptoms you’re having?

  1. pain

  2. fatigue

  3. rash / dry skin

  4. trouble sleeping

  5. anxiety

  6. constipation / loose bowels

  7. stomach pain / indigestion

  8. congestion / fever / cough

It’s ALL a healing crisis!

What does this even mean?

It means your body is in survival mode and doing what it can to keep you alive. It’s also a signal to acknowledge the concerns with a bigger goal in mind rather than just quieting the symptoms.

Symptom relief is not healing…

Healing is you recognizing that the typical thoughts and emotions about you and your situation are not helping you be healthy. Being well means your body is thriving. Managing symptoms is a vicious cycle of survival.

It reminds me of something I heard a yoga instructor say in a class I once attended.

Soften your focus … the more fixed your focus is the less balance you’ll have.

As you know, I test everything including this theory. And you know what? She was right. The more intensely I focused on a spot on the floor in front of me, the bigger the wobble.

Embrace the healing crisis!

  1. Thank it for notifying you that your body is requesting your assistance.

  2. Do what you need to do to ease the distress / discomfort

  3. See it as a call to rise above! You do not have to be stuck in the heaviness of survival

  4. Thank the limiting beliefs for keeping you safe and find the light of kindness and compassion, especially in the face of trauma. Your behaviors and actions up until this point we how you survived and now, you have the opportunity to heal which is in YOUR hands .. not theirs.

  5. Use essential oils with your long term wellness goals in mind. Of course they can help with symptom relief. That’s why I fiercely advocate for using them. However, the healing crisis is asking you to think outside the box. To believe in your wellness and make your selections based on the outcome. In other words, stop trying to control your hormones. The body can regulate them without your help. Your best bet is to choose oils that better your digestion and even then what you use depends on what your body is experiencing. 6. The final message from your healing crisis is to be ready to adapt accordingly because you more than likely will experience another one as you accept the challenge to truly heal. Being able to adjust what you’re doing as well as how you’re helping your body is AS important, if not more than, sticking with the plan. Resistance to change is called rigid thinking or in yoga’s terms, a fixed focus.

The truth is there is nothing wrong with your body! Your point of view is failing you. Learn to see the good in your current situation and celebrate what’s right. You are alive and your body is doing what it ‘knows’ to do to keep you that way.

In order to heal, you must first believe you are wired for wellness. Secondly, align your actions with this mindset which begins with giving up the need to boost your immune system. Your immune system does not need you to fix it!
