Harmony doesn't just happen!
I used to disagree with the idea of being pre-disposed to various health conditions. I disputed that it was in your genes and went so far as to say that beliefs and behaviors are what we inherit, not degenerative health conditions.
Research for my essential oils reference book contests these theories. Well, everything but the fact that beliefs and behaviors are definitely passed down through the generations.
One of the findings was centered on the human body’s ability to prevent cancer. Not just heal from it but prevent it! Shocked? Yes … yes I was.
Cancer cells happen due to the DNA of a healthy cell being chemically altered. Stressors, from emotional distress to environmental factors, initiate your built-in mechanism of protection … the production of pro-inflammatory hormones. In a body that operates like a well-oiled machine, inflammation is offset with the release of anti-inflammatory hormones.
Your body is meant to regulate itself.
What chemicals lead to DNA changes?
Besides the chemical toxins you’re familiar with, I’m suggesting any chemical being used to garner control. In my post Why Life Circle’s Back, I shared that using immune stimulating products while fighting cancer can damage or kill off important immune responses, complicating your health.
The same can be said when using essential oils. The overuse of certain oils can lead to more inflammation.
I have always believed that thoughts and emotions manifest into physical issues. I couldn’t explain it, it just made sense. Then someone introduced me to Louise Haye and Caryoln Myss. Talk about a relief. I wasn’t the only one. But still, no explanation other than energy.
I was satisfied just talking about it about until people started aggressively asking me to justify children being born with cancer.
Not knowing what to say or do, I stopped mentioning anything. And as life happens, I came upon two books: The Biology of Belief by Dr. Bruce Lipton and Molecules of Emotion by Dr. Candace Pert The exact evidence I needed to further explore what I suspected.
We use words and actions to control situations and people. The chemistry depends on the energy of the thoughts and emotions involved. Is there a benefit to controlling something or someone? From time to time, of course! Can it be toxic? When it’s never ending, absolutely!
The ability to determine the best use of your energy could save your life.
Yin / Yang
Dark / Light
Heavy / Light
Low / High
Negative / Positive
Pro-inflammatory / Anti-inflammatory
When it comes to being pro-inflammatory or anti-inflammatory, every chemical your body produces has a dual benefit.
For instance, cholesterol is not just a substance you need to control with medications or diet because there’s too much of it in your blood. It’s essential for proper digestion. However, when the body is up against stressors, the way cholesterol is used depends on the individual epigenome.
Sometimes you develop reproductive issues, live with diabetes, are diagnosed high cholesterol, struggle with hormonal imbalances and / or quite possibly develop cancer. Yes, research is showing cholesterol’s involvement with cancers.
Working with clients diagnosed with colon, stomach and ovarian cancers all of which offer scientific evidence suggesting cholesterol as part of the equation. And not one of these people is living with high cholesterol. Of course, their puzzled, yet it all comes back to the way a person is wired.
Even though none of them have these cancers in their family, it’s evident through the science that every one of us is born with the potential to develop these conditions. It’s just a matter of time, beliefs and behaviors … unless … we realize differently.
What’s the point to any of this?
The following:
tips for resetting your body’s ability to do what it’s meant to do ..
No, they are not the popular self-care suggestions like eating right, taking supplements, meditating and exercising. Although helpful, they’re not enough.
Look, everyone I speak with, including myself (yes .. I will chat with myself) have been following countless recommendations for reducing stress, relieving inflammation, quieting their minds, yet every one of us is facing a medical concern.
If these ideas are SO good, why are health problems on the rise? Why aren’t the race for cures making a dent in the countless people needing medical interventions?
Better yet. Why are there so many children entering this world with serious health issues?
I’m not saying this is 100% of the time. However, the number of people I’ve either spoken to or been around have all reported doing what they were told to do in order to be healthy and / or give their children a good start in life
Clearly, there’s more happening than we’re being made aware of.
Forget turning the page … the only way to slow this trend down is to throw away the rule book.
The secret to your success is to focus on your digestion regardless of age OR how good you think it is!
There is no shortage of manmade and natural chemicals interacting with your body at any given time, including those produced by your own body. It’s the reason you can be in a group of people and witness either a lot of aggression or crazy amount of excitement for the artist playing popular songs.
It all boils down to chemistry.
Without knowing it, chemical compounds affect your entire system. Depending on what’s running through the back of your mind or being released into the area around you, or, or, or the chemistry involved could be interpreted as a threat which now signals a need for protection.
Here are a few changes that occur throughout a system with a stress response that is chronically on high alert:
Nutrient assimilation is diminished due to instinctual biochemical changes which activates the production antibodies from the adaptive immune system (see #15)
Blood flow is restricted in non-essential tissues and increased in essential tissues
The need for micro-minerals, vitamins and electrolytes is elevated due to heightened neurological and cardiovascular activity
Chronic stress increases LDL and serum triglyceride levels because the body is no longer breaking down and effectively using sugars, fats and proteins. This automatically weakens the innate immune system as LDL is needed for blocking the quorum sensing unit of microbes
Blood platelets accumulate which is a major risk factor for heart disease
Sodium retention often occurs due to higher blood glucose levels as it is used to transport usable glucose
Insulin resistance
With the change in biochemistry, cortisol levels rise as it is used to signal 'survival mode' which leads to inflammation of mind and body. Keep in mind, in a stable body, cortisol contributes to the production of anti-inflammatory chemicals
Lymph stagnation and reduced kidney function, slowing the elimination of toxins and fluids and increasing the chance for heart or bone disease since kidneys regulate phosphorus and calcium as well as produce an active form of vitamin D
Gut flora is destroyed because digestive juices have been altered; here we see an increase in migraines, indigestion, heartburn and other digestive disturbances, thyroid imbalance, anxiety, IBS, high cholesterol and the list goes on....
Oxygen supply is diminished due to shallow breathing as well as the rapid use of it to produce oxidative stress
Metabolism is affected due to hormonal shifts and the misuse of calcium
Additional hormonal changes affect muscle mass, sleep patterns, the ability to effectively burn and use fat (besides energy, fat is also used to store toxins), appetite and satiety, iron deficiency, aging, energy levels, sex drive and all of it ....
Saliva levels drop further slowing down the digestion of starches
Less chewing and more gulping which leads to digestive upset
Larger undigested food particles pass into the small intestine a.k.a. leaky gut triggering an immune reaction which sets us up for food sensitivities, allergies and other health concerns i.e. skin conditions, mood imbalance and so on
The DNA has the ability to alter its 'chemistry' / structure for the sake of survival. These genetic adjustments change cellular communication; hence, a shift in our biochemistry. Besides cortisol causing inflammation, the change in communication produces many forms of oxidative stress; therefore, stabilizing the body is essential
Shortens telomeres affecting mitochondrial health. Research is showing that our children are being born with shortened telomeres
an important note on calcium: while it is recognized for fat metabolism, bone density, and its ability to tighten and relax blood vessels, taking it in supplement form is dangerous for all of the reason noted above. Stress changes the body and alters its use of all nutrients. The American Heart Association acknowledges that many U.S. citizens have higher blood serum levels of calcium which means it is not being fully used . What's more, it actually activates t-cells and macrophages. While this is beneficial when warranted, high levels of macrophages inhibit the release of iron from the liver due to stress. Is there any wonder why we're seeing more and more fatigue ....
Can you spot the connection?
If you guessed the gut / brain relationship … you are partially correct.
If you guessed gut / brain / immune system … you get a gold star!
Consider the following from a 2013 study on The Gut’s Little Brain on Intestinal Immunity: ‘in the last decade, the parasympathetic vagal nerve has been put forward as an integral part of an immune regulation network via its release of Ach (acetylcholine), a system coined “the cholinergic anti-inflammatory reflex.”’
The goal of science is to prove the wisdom of Nature and even though they’re discovering just how capable the human body is, they continue to find ways to control it.
The gut / brain / immune axis is the epitome of a synergistic relationship!
In 2018, one more investigation into the Vagus Nerve as Modulator of the Brain–Gut Axis in Psychiatric and Inflammatory Disorders was published. In it, we learn about ‘the bidirectional communication between the brain and the gastrointestinal tract, the so-called “brain–gut axis,” is based on a complex system, including the vagus nerve, but also sympathetic (e.g., via the prevertebral ganglia), ENDOCRINE, immune, and humoral links (body fluids and antibodies) as well as the influence of gut microbiota in order to regulate gastrointestinal homeostasis and to connect emotional and cognitive areas of the brain with gut functions’
Fast forward a few years and we now know that the gut microbes plus their byproducts also interact with endocrine cells in the gut lining. These cells (enteroendocrine cells) make your gut the largest endocrine system organ in the body. These cells secrete hormones that regulate aspects of your metabolism, including blood sugar, hunger and satiety.
It’s hard to NOT listen to the advice out there, yet advice is like a shoe 👠 It may not fit OR be your style.
The secret to advice is to take it in, check it out and listen to what your gut says. This means NOT acting on something until you’ve run it by your inner wisdom.
It’s not unlike muscle testing .. you’re just testing your inner muscle of wisdom
Fear happens & is perfectly understandable. Should you? Do you? What if? We live in a world motivated by many agendas
Healthcare being a big agenda …
Keep in mind, the more you seek to control, the greater the need to control.
Learning to align the knowledge of science with the wisdom within you is the secret to healthy, happy times.
The challenge is your attachment to the outcome which is another hard thing to be free of. It’s risky. What happens if it doesn’t go right?
Life is meant to be your experience, with experience being an internal observation … your source of insight into everything about you! This is your freedom. Free to be honest. Free to change. Free to choose.
Choose the quality of your life. Is it measured by the number of hours spent stressing over worries and symptoms OR is it measured by the time you invest in doing what FEELS best for you?
Inner peace has been pulling at my heart strings since childhood. Although I followed my nose and honored my heart when it came to getting to know essential oils and how they help with human health …. inner peace? What was that ….? It wasn’t something I knew or understood. I believed it would come when the circumstances of my life were calmer.
Talk about the Divine Comedy!? Am I alone? I will stress less when life calms the ‘F’ down. Guess what? Life happens and my interpretations of a situation didn’t always match someone else’s perspective. This meant …. I was the root cause of my distress!!
Essential oils found me. Not the other way around. Peace happened when I leaned into their Nature. Not because they’re a nice go to for easing the upset and tension. This is a temporary fix. Sustainable peace was my mission.
Life is spontaneous and I never saw anything remotely appealing to riding the storm out emotionally and physically. It’s said that stress weakens your immune system, and I was learning that rather quickly!
Inner peace antagonizes dis-ease.
It promotes homeostasis which now improves your system’s ability to move between rest / digest and fight / flight. You require both … especially in today’s world.
SO, what do you do to protect yourself from excessive inflammation and the onset of dis-ease?
Become curious about what your body needs.
Take time WITH you! The ROI is off the charts!
Pay close attention to the gut / brain / immune axis. Tune in and listen to what your body needs to stabilize the system. Every individual is different.
Take a magnesium supplement. I like magnesium malate because the body can use the malate which is an important nutrient for mitochondrial health and cellular energy. Plus magnesium is involved in over 600 cellular processes from brain and immune function to protecting cells from heavy metals.
A co-enzymated vitamin B complex can be taken without meals and is highly available to the body. B vitamins are necessary for brain and nerve health as well as supporting methylation, detoxification and cellular energy. In many ways, magnesium and b vitamins work together.
Of course, eating according to your body’s needs. If you have food sensitivities, listen to that and begin using essential oils to assist your body with adapting more efficiently to stress. There are some that lower histamine in the gut and cardiovascular system. Again, it’s unique to you and something I can assist you with determining. Email me for a one time consultation!
Set an alarm or post notes to remind you to slow down and DEEPEN your breath. Again, depending on what you have going on with congestion or some other respiratory concern, selecting the right essential oils for symptom relief as well as regulating your system makes a tremendous difference between managing the problem and being done with them.
Side note: asthma has been linked to a missing protein which brings us back to taking the magnesium, b vitamins and using oils for systemic relief that includes digestion. Black pepper essential oil comes to mind because there are several genetic links between asthma and pancreatic issues. Feel free to ask me more!
Moving your body becomes easier with more energy and less pain. Using oils as suggested here changes the game entirely. As someone that was diagnosed with arthritis, I can stand by this claim.
Deliberately helping your body regulate itself holds great promise BECAUSE science is also discovering the body’s ability to REVERSE these epigenetic changes.
This is why you don’t need to control the body; you want to empower it! Control prolongs systemic stress because the body is meant to adapt and alter itself.
Therefore, here are a few essential oils you want to AVOID using on a daily basis:
nutmeg
tarragon
fennel
anise
star anise
peppermint
caraway
lavender
Estrogen is also a stress hormone with receptors in the gastrointestinal system. This is one big reason it’s called the gastrointestinal hormonal system, and the listed oils can act like estrogen in the body. When chronically stressed, estrogen is being metabolized to produce inflammation. Introducing oils like these is potentially increasing the production of inflammatory hormones.
And because digestion is critical for wellness and being healthy, for reasons shared in this video, please don’t ingest your essential oils!
